North Conway Grand Hotel Review: Convenient, with Some Trade-Offs

Erons Travel Advisory

My rating: 3/5
Hotel website: North Conway Grand Hotel

The North Conway Grand Hotel has a convenient location for exploring New Hampshire’s White Mountains. My stay also came with some drawbacks that I’d want clients to understand before booking.

I’m Gabriel, a Fargo-based travel advisor and founder of Erons Travel. I visited during peak fall foliage season, when the hotel was busy with tour groups.

A practical base for the White Mountains

The hotel is at 72 Common Court, beside Settlers Green’s outlet shopping. It’s a convenient starting point for drives along the Kancamagus Highway and visits to attractions such as the Conway Scenic Railroad and Cranmore Mountain Resort.

For this kind of trip, I’d plan on a rental car. You’ll want flexibility for scenic drives and stops along the way.

The hotel’s pools and family-oriented amenities add to its appeal for travelers who want things to do between outings.

Friendly staff, but rooms that showed their age

The staff were friendly, and the room was pleasant enough at first glance.

On closer inspection, it felt dated and slightly musty. Based on my stay, a refresh would make a meaningful difference.

The larger problem was the heating, which stopped working and left the room uncomfortably cold overnight. I can’t say whether that was an isolated issue, but it significantly affected my experience.

Expect a busy atmosphere in fall

During my visit, the property was full of tour groups. That isn’t necessarily a problem, but it matters if you’re imagining a quiet New England retreat.

For travelers who prefer a smaller, more intimate property, I’d explore other options in the area.

Who I’d recommend it for

I’d consider the North Conway Grand for families and groups who prioritize location and on-site amenities. For travelers seeking a luxury stay, updated interiors, or a quieter atmosphere, I would recommend comparing alternatives.

My 3/5 rating reflects the friendly staff and convenient location, balanced against the room condition and heating problem.
